Nine\u00a0of them have a white spot in the exact same spot of the nail, which he believes is from the week of junk food.<\/p>\n<p>My thought is that you know what you are talking about, and I\u2019m confused, because he didn\u2019t slam all ten of his fingers in the car door at the same time, so what could have caused the single white spots all in the same length of his nails?&#8221; ~Kari<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>ANSWER<\/h2>\n<p>This is such a great question and there is a great deal of debate around the true answer of white spots on nails.<\/p>\n<div id=\"li-comment-43765\" class=\"comment-container\">\n<div class=\"comment-entry\">\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">The quick answer is that they are <strong>&#8220;nail bruises&#8221;<\/strong>. They are usually <strong>not<\/strong> caused by a calcium or zinc deficiency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"li-comment-43765\" class=\"comment-container\">\n<div class=\"comment-entry\">\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">\u201cLeukonychia is defined as any condition that causes abnormal whitening of the nail plate. Leukonychia spots are large groups of whitish nail cells trapped inside the nail plate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">These spots are generally caused by injuries to the matrix area (behind the cuticle line).\u00a0For example, spots found in the cuticle area are from one-month-old injuries. That is about how long it takes the spot to grow past the eponychium (cuticle line).\u201d ~Doug Schoon, author of <em>Nail Structure and Product Chemistry<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drweil.com\/drw\/u\/QAA350576\/white-spots-on-fingernails.html\">Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D<\/a>., \u201cthese white spots are simply a sign of some past injury to the nail matrix, where the nail cells are formed. Two myths are that white spots in nails are a sign of calcium deficiency, or a zinc deficiency. They aren\u2019t true. Simply bumping your matrix against a counter, or having something fall on your hand can cause them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">It\u2019s not enough to really hurt.\u00a0It might sting for a few minutes and then go away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">You brush it off, and don\u2019t think of it again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">Then the bruise <strong>shows up 30 days later<\/strong> and you have no idea what caused it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">Men also have a higher pain tolerance. I can\u2019t tell you how many times my husband has come in from doing something outside and is bleeding from a small cut. He doesn\u2019t remember it happening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">If your husband has them all in the same place on several fingers, it\u2019s possible that they didn\u2019t happen all on the same day. Perhaps it was a construction project or trimming the trees over several days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">He may have gradually bruised all of his fingers over a weeks time. As they grow out, it would look like he did it all at once.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-3259 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nailcareheadquarters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/White-spots-on-nails-5-Mo-Update-500x625.png\" alt=\"www.NailCareHQ.com White-spots-on-nails-5 month update\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/>I often see several photos of women who have a lot of white spots as in Sue&#8217;s photo here. When I inquired about her nail care habits, I discovered that she pushes back her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nailcareheadquarters.com\/nail-anatomy\/\">proximal fold<\/a> daily, often times with a metal cuticle remover tool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">The problem was that she was<strong> pushing down way too hard<\/strong> with the tool and damaging the nail matrix.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">You can also see extreme redness and swelling of her skin. This was caused by pushing the proximal fold\u00a0<strong>back too hard<\/strong> and disrupting the guardian seal. <a title=\"white spots on nails Sue's results\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nailcareheadquarters.com\/white-spots-in-nails-sues-pure-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">You can read her entire story here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #555555;\">The <a title=\"white spots on nails nail care anatomy nailcarehq\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nailcareheadquarters.com\/nail-anatomy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">proximal fold<\/a>\u00a0only needs to be gently pushed back with your fingernail every 4 to 7 days to release it from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nailcareheadquarters.com\/nail-anatomy\/\">cuticle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><b id=\"docs-internal-guid-245c506a-3843-d26c-c5eb-02abc3f489ec\" style=\"font-size: 1.5em; line-height: 19px;\">In Conclusion<\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">For the most part, these nail bruises are <strong>nothing to worry about. <\/strong>They just need to grow out.
