Here\u2019s why.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Twenty filing strokes remove one week of growth<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019ve accomplished this once in the last 4 years since I learned it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>My Little Secret<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">My reason is plain and simple . . . I\u2019m busy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I run a rapidly growing global business, try to keep my sanity with four children, and continue to build a happy marriage with Cory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I just don\u2019t have time to file 200 strokes every week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I let them grow until I know they are all destined to start breaking because . . . well . . . I have a crazy life. And I bet you do too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There\u2019s no way I\u2019m going to file 4 weeks of growth. I might go insane.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Instead, I use really sharp nail clippers, <strong>cut them to slightly longer than I want<\/strong>, and finish by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.myblisskiss.com\/bliss-kiss-crystal-nail-file\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">filing with a crystal nail file<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><strong>When To Say No<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">I do not recommend\u00a0using nail clippers if you have short nails. There&#8217;s just not enough to cut.\u00a0They will splinter easily, which can lead to more tip peeling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Filing is the best solution if your nails are short.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>How To Cut Longer Nails<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Most people have trouble cutting their nails because they are trying to cut straight across. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The problem with this technique is that the <strong>opposite corner will most likely snap at an angle<\/strong>. Then you\u2019re stuck filing your nails two or three millimeters shorter than you planned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">With a little patience, this tragedy can be avoided. (Only nail geeks understand that this truly <em>is<\/em> a tragedy!)<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Tips:<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Make sure your nails<strong> have <i>not<\/i> been in water in the last hour.<\/strong>\u00a0It may be easier to clip toenails if they are wet, but it will cause fingernails to peel more. They&#8217;re too soft and could tear easily.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Do not cut your fingernails straight across.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you like your nails square, you will definitely want to cut your nails two to three millimeters longer than you want the finished look to be and finish off with filing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ready . . . Go<\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It usually takes <strong>three small clips<\/strong> with rounded nail clippers. Start on the side of the nail facing your thumb, make a small clip about 1\/3 across at an angle. Position the clippers pointed toward the upper, opposite corner of the nail. This will help prevent the nail from snapping.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Make another cut about 1\/3 across the top.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Finish with the last clip either straight across or slightly curved the other direction.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Use your <strong>favorite nail file to finish the edges<\/strong>.
